Liner Notes for the New EP

Since Monster-0 Works for You is a digital release, you don't get any nice packaging and liner notes. Apologies. I've gathered the liner notes and lyrics below:

Monster-0 Works for You

Monster-0 is Daemon Hatfield

All songs written and recorded by Daemon in his San Francisco apartment.

Mastered by Dennis Mortensen in NYC.

Special thanks to Geddes and Claudia.

1. Never You Mind (written January 2009)

Remember in the summer

When we first met each other

We drank ourselves into bed you know we had it made

Well I’ve still got your number

I’m waking up your mother

I’ll crawl up to your window girl and this is what I’ll say

I am inclined to think about you most all the time

Until I forget you – press rewind

And then I remember when you were mine

Never you mind

These girls are looking scary

You said on the contrary

We’ll divide and conquer impress them all before the dawn

Well I knew you’d deceive me

Run around and leave me

One step ahead of the game before you know it I’ll be gone

I am inclined to think about you most all the time

Until I forget you – press rewind

And then I remember when you were mine

Never you mind

Ah, so you found some ugly glasses

You’ve been taking hipster classes and now you’re too cool for school

Well I’ve still got your number

I’m waking up your mother

Gonna give you one more chance to be the girl who’s got it made

I am inclined to think about you most all the time

Until I forget you – press rewind

And then I remember when you were mine

Thinking of you is pretty much the only thing I do

Time to fall back and regroup

And figure out how to capture you – true

2. I Guess This Is My Life (written spring 2008)

Mom and Dad made it a while

They separated in the common style

Well, I guess this is my life now

You up and left without saying goodbye

The police were polite and everybody cried

Well, I guess this is my life now

We separated in the common style

And now your friends greet me with a fake smile

Well, I guess this is my life now

3. Mother Forever (written spring 2010)

Born into royalty

Experiment in loyalty

Mother needs you

Will never leave you

Resign yourself to your fate

No man will have you, it’s too late

Prince Imperial

No longer material

One by one the others left

You remained at mother’s breast

You’ll remain at mother’s side

Until the day she dies

Nevertheless

You said yes

You had ten years

Before the tears

If you stay with mother forever

You could be the opposite of me

Raised on your mother’s grief

You are here for her relief

The King of Spain remembers your name

One condition

Remember your mission

Nevertheless

You said yes

You had ten years

Before the tears

If you stay with mother forever

You could be the opposite of me

Born into royalty

Experiment in loyalty

You’ll remain at mother’s side

Until the day she dies

4. I Work for You (written late 2008)

Let’s listen to House of Love

Let’s think of a name for our band

You know I’m at your command

You snap your fingers

Look and linger

Through and through

I think that I work for you

You stand beside me

Try to guide me

Through and through

I think that I work for you

Let’s listen to House of Love

Let’s make this a house of love

And when we have a name for our band

We’ll travel all over the land

You snap your fingers

Look and linger

Through and through

I think that I work for you

You stand beside me

Try to guide me

Through and through

I think that I work for you

5. Ryan Writes Plays (written spring 2009)

instrumental

Fun facts:

- “I Guess This Is My Life” is a B-side that was left off Monster-0’s previous album, Don’t Worry About the World.

- “Mother Forever” is about Princess Beatrice, the youngest daughter of Queen Victoria.

- House of Love, mentioned in “I Work for You,” is one of Daemon’s favorite Brit Pop bands.

- “Ryan Writes Plays” is named after Daemon’s friend Ryan Colwell. He lives in New York and really does write plays. This song was used in the soundtrack for one of them.

Of course, Monster-0 Works for You is now available on iTunes.

Nice lyrics. I thought Ryan Writes Plays would be a bout Mr. Geddes, but a guy can be wrong, right? Still got the lyrics for Then There Were Zero? I like Or So You Think and Take Me Down.
